A microwave is dangerous because it uses high voltage. So insulating gloves, discharging the high voltage capacitor and making sure to leave the magnetron in place were a must. Once everything open, I had access to the door where I could recover the broken plastic hinge.

I then took careful and exact measurements of the plastic piece, broken in 2 places, and drew it on my cad software of choice. Once that done, I printed the piece with complete filling at certain places where it seemed most vulnerable. After having to redesign the part from a very, very slight misalignment, it now works flawlessly!

It so happened that the massive microwave fits perfectly above our oven, so I decide to actually put it in there. With the help of some wood planks, it fits perfectly and looks really cool! It took a while, but the result is very pleasing!

I am planning on doing a video to explain the process, which should be done by Thursday.

This post is a work in progress, and will get updates in the future 🙂 Recently, a friend gave me a broken microwave, not new but very good quality.
